Based on Forbes data, 97% of Chinese billionaires are self-made — higher than in the United States (73%) and far higher than in India (44%).
Why is it easier to become self-made in China?
Zhang Yiming, founder of TikTok; Ma Huateng, founder of WeChat; and Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, are the richest billionaires in China — and they all attended public schools. In fact, all of China’s top universities are public and rank among the best in the world.
So if you want a society with equal opportunity, invest in public education like China.
